My  art show, "Bozo Street Malakas" (see below posts),  was very fun to prepare for and  satisfying - if exhausing - to  plan out and execute.  By the time of my opening I had been averaging working over 40 hours per week on the show (while also working my full-time job).

I remember how I felt when I got home from setting it up.  The next day, the day of my show, I would sleep in and relax for the first time in weeks. Some of my Portland friends showed up and we hung out and drank and eventually I pulled off an Irish Goodbye and went home feeling pretty hopeful.

"Bozo Street Malakas" was  109  pieces, most of which I made  in the  year  since moving to  Portland.  While the show was  up I decided to take a break from  painting. I had  spent all my extra money  on art supplies and on  setting up the show. By the time I got it all sorted, I had used all my art supplies. So I took a break.

During the five weeks my show was up I made  four new pieces that I'm really happy with.  They're essentially large collages made entirely from pages from my sketchbooks. But that was it for five weeks - four collages.

Eventually I went to take the show down and  learned that of the 109 pieces I had put up, four had sold (I believe all to supportive co=workers). After the gallery  took their cut I walked away with something like $380.

I brought everything home, figured out how to store it all, and that was that. Enough with this art stuff. Failed writer. Failed filmmaker. Failed painter. In the months since taking the show down, when I'm not at work,  I'm either asleep or laying  in my apartment, trying to sleep. Trying not to spend money.

I randomly sold a painting recently, which  allowed me to justify spending a tiny bit of money on student-grade art supplies. That was less than two weeks ago and in the time since I have completed four paintings that I am very happy with. You can see one of them  above.

Click on that thing and zoom and  and scan  around. (I have an idea for how to use it as album art if anyone is  in need.)
